Shenzhen's 2026 AI competition has concluded: what should enterprise buyers take from it?

It also said more than half of the entries focused on underlying technology and 85% were at an early, Series A stage. A separate Bao'an report highlighted embodied intelligence, AI for Science and hardware manufacturing among the visible themes.
These figures indicate where founders and investors are active in Shenzhen. They do not establish that a particular product fits a buyer's workflow, has production support or can deliver a measurable return.

1. Translate a technology category into a business job
State which process should become faster, which error should fall, which service outcome should improve and who will use the system. Customer-service summarisation, contract review, equipment inspection and robotic operation require different evidence. “We need an agent” is not an adequate scope.
2. Separate technical promise from delivery maturity
An early-stage company may have a strong technical insight without established implementation, operations or support. Review product status, work in a comparable environment, named delivery owners, data and hardware dependencies, post-launch support and the exit path. An award can help discover a candidate; it should not replace due diligence.
3. Run a controlled test with the same evidence
Give shortlisted suppliers the same anonymised business samples, task boundaries and scorecard. Compare completed tasks, severe errors, human review time, reliability and ongoing cost—not edited demonstrations. For hardware, test the actual site conditions, safety boundary and human takeover process.
4. Put supply-chain and exit conditions in the review
Identify who supplies the model, compute, sensors, critical software and data. Confirm whether the buyer can export business data, configuration, evaluation sets and operating records if the supplier changes. For an early product, use staged commitments in which evidence from a limited deployment determines whether scope expands.

- Business, security, procurement and operational decision-makers are assigned.
- Pass, remediation, reduced-scope and stop conditions are agreed.
- Data, configuration, documentation and necessary accounts remain recoverable on exit.
Common mistakes
Treating an award as procurement approval. A competition and a production acceptance process answer different questions. Delivery, cost, operational resilience and business fit still require evidence.
Following a popular category without a defined job. Market attention does not create an internal use case. A company without a stable task, usable data and an accountable owner should not expand scope merely to follow a theme.
Assuming all early teams are risky or all established vendors are suitable. Company stage should change the depth of diligence and contractual safeguards. It does not replace performance in the target setting.
